The demonstration of low resource consumption in the htop utility creates an illusion of efficiency, yet does not reflect the real picture of system operation.
Modern Linux distributions, even those positioned as "lightweight," include automatic update mechanisms that run in the background. These processes consume system resources, create disk load, and occupy RAM, which is especially critical for outdated equipment. The difference between "clean" installation metrics and real-world operation can reach critical values.
The problem is compounded by the evolution of software requirements.
